Skate 2 is an open-world, third-person video game that features the extreme sport of skateboarding. The player assumes control of a skateboarder who has just been freed from prison after being arrested five years prior in the game’s fictitious city of San Vanelona. After spending time in jail, San Vanelona had an earthquake depicted in the spin-off game Skate It, which destroyed the city.
Skateboarding has been declared illegal by the City Council and Chamber of Commerce, and a company called “Mongocorp” has purchased and renovated most of the city’s property, skate-proofed everything, and set up a private security force to stop people from skating.
